While brutal force has been used to create Zionist Israel and sustain it thus far, Zionist claims to Palestine are false. Actually, from the five thousand years of known written human history, there has been a continuous Palestinian-Canaanite presence in the Holy Land. Despite the Zionist false claims, the ancient Israelites ruled part of the land for only 85 years (during the reign of Prophets David and Solomon , peace be upon them, and Solomon's son).

After that, the Egyptians conquered Palestine-Canaan in 925 BC, followed by Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, and Romans, before the Arab Muslim rule, starting from 636 AD.

By the Time Jesus, peace be upon him, started his mission, the three population groups of Canaanites, Palestinians, and Israelites were melted together in religion and language. Most of them became Christians when Constantine converted in 313 AD. Then, most of them became Muslims in the 7th and 8th centuries AD.

So, Palestinian Muslims, Christians, and Jews are the ones who have the right to claim descent from ancient Israelites, Palestinians, and Canaanites, not Zionists from other continents.

No matter what the Zionists and their supporters do, they cannot change the will of God, Who promised the Holy Land to Abraham and his descendants, basically the Palestinian Muslims and Christians.

No matter how much persecution and aggression the Zionists and their supporters inflict upon the Palestinian people, they will never be able to force them out of the Holy Land, which Allah, praise to Him, promised for them, and kept His promise ever since.

This is a necessary brief background to understand the US-Backed Zionist Israeli continuous wars against the Arab nation generally, and the Palestinian people in particular, which included the wars of 1948, 1956, 1967, 1978, 1982, the brutal crushing of the two Uprisings (1987-1993 and 2000-2004), 2009, 2012, 2014, 2021, and the current genocidal war on Gaza (Since October 7, 2023), which has culminated a blockade of Gaza since 2007. In addition, the Israeli occupation and apartheid regime launched so many covert operations, raids, and air strikes on many Arab states since 1948.

The following news stories are just examples, not a systematic record, of the Israeli occupation government abuse, mistreatment, and violations of Palestinian human rights, on daily basis.

ýThe engineering regiment completes the survey work inside the city of tents in preparation for allowing its people to return to it

And what in the new violations of the enemy?ý

Al-Manar, December 13, 2024 ý

ýHours after the Lebanese army entered the southern city of Khiam, after the army began entering it on Thursday morning after the entry of the international force of UNIFIL, the army's engineering and works teams, according to Al-Manar TV correspondent 'Ali Shu'aib from the northern entrance to the city, are still working to survey the area, preventing until the moment the entry of the town's residents, civilians and press teams into the town. In this context, it was announced on Friday that the army had arrived at the town square, and began cleaning the streets towards the Khiyam detention center in its southern outskirts. Al-Manar correspondent confirmed that the Lebanese army regained its position in the town of Ain al-Arab, after the occupation withdrew.ý

ýThis comes in conjunction with the entry of a supervising committee from UNIFIL and the army this morning to the town to ensure that it is free of occupation soldiers, pending the completion of the second phase of the deployment of infantry forces throughout the town, after the completion of the engineering regiment of survey work and the search for any dangerous remnants from the violent confrontations that took place in the area during the war between the occupation and the mujahideen of the resistance.ý

ýIt is noteworthy that the start of the army's deployment yesterday did not prevent the Israeli enemy from committing more violations, which have not stopped since the ceasefire took effect on November 27, as a hostile march targeted three young men who were inspecting the destruction in the town square, killing one martyr and wounding others.ý

ýAfter the tents, attention is turning to the rest of the towns in the eastern sector, where the army is supposed to redeploy in implementation of the ceasefire agreement. But a military source told the Lebanese newspaper "Al-Akhbar" that "there is no specific date for deployment, and the next destination after the tents is unknown," so far, indicating the continuation of enemy maneuvers and procrastination in the application of the truce despite international guarantees. Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation forces retreated at dawn yesterday from the outskirts of Wadi Al-Saluki on the outskirts of Talloussa towards a boat to the east.ý

ýRegarding the new violations of the agreement by the enemy, the National Agency reported a hostile raid at dawn on the town of Al-Naqoura, in addition to the intensive flight of hostile marches over the villages and towns of the city of Tyre, especially in the airspace of Ain Baal - Batouleh - Hinnawiya, Qana, Al-Qiliyya, Al-Mansouri and the plain extending between Al-Qiliyah and Tyre, in addition to the southern suburb of Beirut and the city of Beirut.ý

ýAl-Manar correspondent in the south, Hashem al-Sayed Hassan, reported a cautious calm witnessed in many southern towns since the morning, i.e. the absence of drones, raids or targeting, which the ceasefire did not prevent the enemy from practicing during the previous period.ý

ýIn the context of the course of the attacks, enemy army spokesman Avichai Adraee today warned the residents of the south against returning to the following villages: Al-Dhahira, Al-Taybeh, Al-Tiri, Al-Naqoura, Abu Shash, Abel Al-Saqi, Al-Bayada, Al-Jabin, Al-Khuraibeh, Al-Khayyam, Khirba, Matmoura, Al-Mari, Al-Adaisa, Al-Qulaya, um Tuta, Salib, Arnoun, Bint Jbeil, Beit Lev, Blida, Bani Hayyan, Al-Bustan, Ain Arab Marjayoun, Dibin, Dibal, Deir Mimas, Deir Syrian, Hula, Halta, Hanin, Tayr Harfa, Yahmor, Yaron, Yarin, Kafr Hamam, Kafr Kila, Kafr Shuba, Zalotiya, Muhaibib, Mays Al-Jabal. Maysat, Marjayoun, Marwaheen, Maroun al-Ras, Markaba, Adchit al-Qusayr, Ain Abel, Ainata, Aita al-Shaab, Aitaroun, Alma al-Shaab, Arab al-Louaizeh, al-Quzah, Rab Thalateen, Ramia, Rmeish, Rashaya al-Foukhar, Shebaa, Shiheen, Shama', Talousa."ý

ýWhile the enemy vows to withdraw within the sixty-day deadline, from all southern villages, it continues to blow up houses in border towns, and Wadi Hassan on the outskirts of Majdal Zon and Tair 'Harfa yesterday witnessed huge explosions caused by the enemy blowing up houses in the area.ý

Escalating security chaos, Thefts and violations by former regime affiliates and gunmen trigger public anger in Al-Qarda'ha

SOHR, On Dec 12, 2024

Al-Qardaha city, the hometown of the “dictator” Bashar Al-Assad, has experienced deteriorating security chaos and growing tension over the ongoing violations by gunmen loyal to the former regime and other gangs; this, in turn, has disappointed the city’s residents who see that the situation remains unchanged after the fall of Al-Assad’s regime.

According to SOHR sources, some individuals from Al-Qardaha city robbed the headquarters of “Al-Rijah” institution in the city, while members of the Military Operations Administration who are deployed in the city seemed satisfied with monitoring the robbers without intervention.

Meanwhile, gunmen, coming from the mountain overlooking the forests, stormed villages in south Al-Qardaha countryside, stealing four cars.

The region’s residents expressed their discontent over the growing influence by some affiliates of the former regime, who benefited from promotions and security facilitations for years.

Those individuals had been involved in looting large swaths in Idlib and Hama countryside and stealing crops, and today, they exploit the unstable situation to achieve financial gains.

Moreover, former regime affiliates have held banquet for factions deployed in Al-Ghab in Hama, attempting to woo them and enhance their influence.

On the other hand, the prisoners, who have been recently freed, included criminals involved in murder crimes and thefts. However, those criminals are introduced as trustworthy individuals and local dignitaries.

Such violations have triggered a state of discontent among residents who see those practices as a continuation of the policy of escaping accountability and that those individuals cannot represent the Syrian society, as they pose a threat to the security and stability of the entire region.

In this context, residents have asked relevant authorities to adopt strict measures to control the security situation and hold perpetrators of crimes and violations accountable, stressing that the continuity of security chaos weakens chances to achieve a real change meeting the fundamentals of the Syrian Revolution.

IOFs infiltrate Quneitra countryside, issue warnings to Daraa residents

By Al-Mayadeen English

December 13, 2024

The SDF-affiliated Manbij Military Council says it had repelled all attacks by "Turkish occupation mercenaries" on the Tishrin Dam and Qaraqozak Bridge.

Israeli tanks "infiltrated deep into Quneitra countryside overnight, entering the town of Khan Arnabah, one of the largest towns in the province," local sources from Quneitra reported Friday.

The Israeli tanks "entered an abandoned former military position in Khan Arnabah before later withdrawing," the sources added.

As part of its continued incursions into Syria, the Israeli occupation military also issued warnings to residents of villages in western rural Daraa, ordering them to remain in their homes, according to Al Mayadeen’s correspondent.

Regarding last night’s Israeli airstrikes, our correspondent pointed out that a significant portion of the targeted sites "had been previously struck by the occupation."

He noted that the Israeli airstrikes "targeted Mount Qasioun in the Syrian capital, Damascus, where sites belonging to the former regime's Republican Guard are located."

Meanwhile, Israeli Security Minister Israel Katz ordered the military to "prepare to remain" throughout the winter in the UN-patrolled buffer zone on the Golan Heights.

"Due to the situation in Syria, it is of critical security importance to maintain our presence at the summit of Mount Hermon, and everything must be done to ensure the (army's) readiness on-site to enable the fighters to stay there despite the challenging weather conditions," Katz's spokesman said in a statement Friday.

In a move that has triggered widespread international criticism, including from UN chief Antonio Guterres, the Israeli military occupied the demilitarized zone on Sunday, just hours after the armed opposition in Syria seized control of most of the country's territory.

Related News

"This deployment is temporary until a force that is committed to the 1974 (armistice) agreement can be established and security on our border can be guaranteed," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office claimed on Thursday.

The UN indicated that the Israeli military's seizure of the buffer zone violates the 1974 "disengagement agreement" between Syria and "Israel".

SDF say repelled mercenary attacks on Tishrin Dam, Qaraqozak Bridge

Also in Syria, the Manbij Military Council affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that it had repelled all attacks by "Turkish occupation mercenaries" on the Tishrin Dam and Qaraqozak Bridge.

The Council stated that "after three days of heroic resistance" against a comprehensive, multi-pronged attack with Turkish air support on the Tishrin Dam and Qaraqozak Bridge, its forces managed to thwart the attack, drive out the mercenary remnants, and inflict heavy losses on them.

It further noted that despite the ceasefire agreement brokered under US auspices and at a time when national attention was focused on toppling the regime in Syria, "the Turkish occupation mercenaries carried out repeated attacks, utilizing various types of weapons, tanks, and armored vehicles, supported by aerial coverage from over 20 Turkish AKINCI drones targeting Qaraqozak Bridge and Tishrin Dam southeast of Manbij."

The Manbij Military Council noted that the Turkish forces, which provided constant air support for the mercenary attacks, directly targeted the Tishrin Dam with drone strikes, causing significant damage.

Additionally, the statement said that Turkish forces bombarded areas of engagement and Manbij Military Council positions over 160 times by drones, asserting that the Council's fighters employed modern warfare tactics, "outmaneuvered the mercenaries, set ambushes, and inflicted severe losses, including the killing of many of their leaders and the destruction of their tanks and vehicles."

According to the Council, the three days of battles at Qaraqozak Bridge and Tishrin Dam resulted in the death of 210 mercenaries, hundreds of injuries, as well as the destruction of 39 military vehicles, six tanks, five suicide drones, and 20 motorcycles.

The statement also confirmed that eight Manbij Military Council fighters were killed, and 13 others were injured.

Israeli attacks kill 30 more Gazans as death toll reaches 44,835

Ahmed Asmar

Anadolu,12.12.2024 -

ANKARA

Israeli attacks killed at least 30 more Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, in three main massacres, in the last 24 hours, bringing the overall death toll since last year to 44,835, the Health Ministry in the enclave said on Thursday.

A ministry statement added that some 106,356 others were injured in the ongoing assault.

“Israeli forces killed 30 people and injured 99 others in three massacres of families in the last 24 hours,” the ministry said.

“Many people are still trapped under the rubble and on the roads as rescuers are unable to reach them,” it added.

Israel has continued a genocidal war on the Gaza Strip following a Hamas attack on Oct. 7 last year, despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire.

The second year of genocide in Gaza has drawn growing international condemnation, with officials and institutions labeling the attacks and blocking of aid deliveries as a deliberate attempt to destroy a population.

Last month, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its deadly war on Gaza.

Israeli genocidal war on Gaza enters Day 433

Thursday 12-December-2024

GAZA, (PIC)

In the midst of catastrophic humanitarian suffering for more than two million Palestinians — half of them children, the Israeli occupation army continued, for the 433rd consecutive day, to pound and target different areas and massacre more civilians in the Gaza Strip, especially in the northern areas.

Reporters for the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) said on Thursday that the Israeli occupation army carried out attacks on several homes, civilian targets and shelter centers in different areas of Gaza during the past 24 hours, killing and injuring dozens of citizens.

The Israeli army’s large-scale genocidal campaign in northern Gaza, especially in Jabalya and Bait Lahya, has entered day 69, where its forces continue to intensively bomb homes and shelters and attack civilians while imposing a tight siege on the entire area.

Deliberate Israeli attacks on ambulance and civil defense workers already deprived northern Gaza of any rescue services.

14 Palestinians were killed and several more were injured in an Israeli airstrike on the Al-Lou'h family home in the vicinity of Radhi station, west of Al-Nusayrat camp in the central Gaza Strip.

Seven citizens were also killed and many others were injured in an Israeli attack on the Al-Malash residential building near the Abdul 'Aal intersection on Al-Jalaa Street, west of Gaza City. Children were among the victims.

Along the same line, 15 Palestinians were killed in two air raids targeting aid security personnel on Al-Rashid Street, west of Khan Younus.

The only orthopedic Doctor in Northern Gaza killed by IOFs quadcopter

Thursday 12-December-2024

GAZA, (PIC)

The only orthopedic doctor in northern Gaza was martyred on Thursday in a direct strike by an Israeli drone, while the toll from the ongoing genocide in Gaza has risen to 44,835 martyrs.

Israeli snipers killed the only orthopedic doctor in northern Gaza, Dr. Sa'eed Joudah, coinciding with the deliberate targeting of the medical system and its personnel in the besieged northern region for 70 days, in a relentless effort to bring it down.

Al-'Awda Hospital in northern Gaza reported the martyrdom of Dr. Joudah after he was shot in the head while on his way to the hospital.

The Ministry of Health announced the martyrdom of Dr. Joudah as he was heading from Kamal 'Udwan Hospital to Al-'Awda Hospital to treat some cases, following an attack by an Israeli drone of the “Quadcopter” type, which fired directly at him.

The Ministry of Health announced in a press release that Dr. Joudah had previously been injured two weeks ago, but despite this, he continued to provide services and treat patients and wounded individuals in northern Gaza.

It explained that with the martyrdom of Dr. Joudah, the number of martyrs in the health sector has risen to 1,057 since the beginning of the Israeli war of genocide against the enclave.

The Ministry of Health reiterated its appeal to international and human rights organizations to provide protection for hospitals and health personnel as they fulfill their humanitarian duty, calling on health workers around the world to show solidarity with their counterparts in Gaza.

On another note, the Ministry of Health reported that the toll of the ongoing genocide in Gaza has now reached 44,835 martyrs and 106,356 injured individuals with varying degrees of injuries, since October 7, 2023.

In the daily statistical report on Thursday, it stated that during the past 24 hours, the occupying forces committed three new massacres against Palestinian families and displaced individuals in Gaza, leading to the martyrdom and injury of dozens of citizens, the majority of whom were women and children.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported in its daily statistical report that hospitals in Gaza dealt with 30 martyrs and 99 injured individuals due to the new massacres by the occupation. It noted that there are still a number of victims under the rubble and on the streets that rescue and civil defense teams cannot reach.

GAZA, December 12, 2024 (WAFA) –

The Israeli occupation army issued new forcible evacuation orders on Thursday evening for residents of the Rimal and Sabra neighborhoods in Gaza City.

However, no area in the Gaza Strip has been spared from airstrikes, including hospitals, schools, and United Nations facilities, many of which have been converted into shelters for displaced families.

The ongoing genocide perpetrated by Israeli forces in Gaza since October 7, 2023, has so far resulted in more than 151,000 casualties, including both killed and injured, the majority of whom are women and children.

Dozens of the illegal Israeli settlers storm Al-Aqsa Mosque, perform Talmudic rituals in its courtyards

Thursday 12-December-2024

Al-Quds (occupied Jerusalem), (PIC)

Dozens of the illegal Israeli settlers  stormed on Thursday the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, under the protection of Israeli occupation forces and police, organized provocative tours and performed Talmudic rituals in its courtyards.

Al-Quds (occupied Jerusalem) sources reported that about 87 settlers and eight Jewish students stormed the squares of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque this morning from the Al-Maghariba Gate, carried out provocative tours and performed Talmudic rituals in its courtyards.

The Al-Aqsa Mosque is frequently exposed to Israeli settlers’ incursions, amid the Palestinian refusal of Israeli attempts to impose a state of spatial and temporal division on it.

Israeli violations in the Al-Aqsa Mosque have escalated in an unprecedented manner since October 2023, in parallel with the ongoing Israeli genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.

Israeli occupation forces demolish homes and walls in Bait La'hm (Bethlehem)

Bait La'hm (Bethlehem), December 12, 2024 (WAFA) –

Israeli occupation forces demolished two homes and three concrete walls today in the Mal'ha area, east of the town of Za'tara, in the southern West Bank province of Bait La'hm (Bethlehem), according to local sources.

Abdul Qadir Dthuwaib, a member of the Za'tara Municipal Council, stated that an Israeli military force, accompanied by heavy machinery, demolished two homes in the area, each approximately 100 square meters in size.

The demolition also targeted three concrete walls surrounding land belonging to local residents. The Israeli authorities justified the demolitions by claiming the structures were built in Area C of the West Bank, under full Israeli control.

Dthuwaib explained that this action is part of a deliberate strategy by Israel to intensify pressure on Palestinians by demolishing their homes. He added that the eastern Bethlehem countryside has been subjected to a series of measures aimed at seizing land for colonial purposes and displacing local residents.

'Hamas calls for obliging Israel to abide by UN ceasefire resolution

Thursday 12-December-2024

GAZA, (PIC)

The 'Hamas Movement welcomed the UN General Assembly’s resolution that demands an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, immediate access to basic necessities and humanitarian aid, rejection of any endeavor to starve the Palestinians, calling on the international community to oblige the Israeli occupation government to abide by the UN resolution.

UN General Assembly demands Gaza ceasefire and hostage release, affirms ‘full support’ for UNRWA

UNGA, December 12, 2024

The General Assembly adopted two key resolutions on Wednesday night, demanding an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of all hostages. It also reaffirmed its full support for the embattled UN agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA).

The actions were taken at the Assembly’s resumed 10th emergency special session, following the failure of the Security Council to adopt a resolution demanding such a ceasefire and full hostage release.

Despite securing 14 votes in favour, that text put forward by the 10 elected members of the Council, failed to pass owing to a veto from permanent member the United States.

Demand for ceasefire

In adopting the resolution entitled “Demand for ceasefire in Gaza” (A/ES-10/L.33), the 193-member Assembly also demanded all parties “fully comply with international law”, including international humanitarian law, especially as it relates to protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure.

The resolution was the second explicit demand for a ceasefire by the Assembly at the resumed special session, since the outbreak of the war in Gaza on 7 Oct 2023.

It was adopted with 158 nations in favor and 9 against, with 13 abstentions.

There were some notable changes in how countries voted compared with previous resolution.

Those voting in favor on Wednesday, having abstained or opposed the earlier resolution, were: Austria, Bulgaria, Cabo Verde, Equatorial Guinea, Germany, Guatemala, Italy, Liberia, Marshall Islands, the Netherlands, Romania, the United Kingdom, and Uruguay.

Albania and Fiji abstained on Wednesday, having supported the resolution last year. Micronesia also abstained, having opposed the earlier resolution.

The following Members opposed the text on Wednesday, having abstained at the earlier vote: Argentina, Hungary, Tonga.

The other negative votes were Czechia, Israel, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, and the United States. These Member States had also voted against the resolution last year.

Release of hostages

The resolution further demanded that parties “fully, unconditionally and without delay” implement all the provisions of Security Council resolution 2735, regarding an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, the exchange of Palestinian prisoners, the return of hostage remains; the return of Palestinian civilians to their homes and neighborhoods in all areas of Gaza, including in the north; and the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

Need for accountability

The General Assembly also stressed the need for accountability, asking the Secretary-General to propose how the United Nations could “help to advance accountability” through existing or new mechanisms.

The resolution requested the UN chief to submit a comprehensive report, including a needs assessment for Gaza, and reiterated its “unwavering commitment to the vision of the two-State solution”, with the Gaza Strip as part of the Palestinian State.

“In this regard [the Assembly] rejects any attempt at demographic or territorial change in the Gaza Strip, including any actions that reduce the territory of the Gaza Strip, and stresses the importance of unifying the Gaza Strip with the West Bank under the Palestinian Authority,” the resolution noted.

Full support for UNRWA

In the second resolution adopted on Wednesday (A/ES-10/L.32), the General Assembly affirmed its “full support” for UNRWA, which has been under sustained pressure from Israel.

It “deplored” the legislation adopted by the Israeli Knesset on 28 October 2024, which – if implemented – would effectively prevent UNRWA from carrying out its mandate in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

The resolution was adopted with 159 Member States in favour and nine against (Argentina, Israel, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Tonga, and the United States), with 11 Member States abstaining.

Respect UNRWA’s mandate

The General Assembly called on the Israeli Government to “abide by its international obligations, respect the privileges and immunities of the Agency and uphold its responsibility to allow and facilitate full, rapid, safe and unhindered humanitarian assistance in all its forms into and throughout the entire Gaza Strip, including the provision of sorely needed basic services to the civilian population.”

“[The Assembly] strongly warns against any attempts to dismantle or diminish the operations and mandate of the Agency, recognizing that any interruption or suspension of its work would have severe humanitarian consequences for millions of Palestine refugees who depend on the Agency’s services and also implications for the region,” the resolution stated.

Implement recommendations

The Assembly also called on UNRWA to fully implement the recommendations outlined in the independent review conducted by Catherine Colonna, the former French foreign minister.

It also took note of the report of the working group on financing of UNRWA, urging “immediate efforts” to address the financial and operational crises affecting the Agency.

Ireland joins South Africa genocide case against Israel

Thursday 12-December-2024

DUBLIN, (PIC)

Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin announced on Wednesday Ireland’s decision to intervene in South Africa’s case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which accuses Israel of violating the Genocide Convention.

The formal filing will take place at the ICJ in The Hague later this month, Martin clarified.

“There has been a collective punishment of the Palestinian people through the intent and impact of military actions of Israel in Gaza, leaving 44,000 dead and millions of civilians displaced,” said Martin following a cabinet meeting.

He added that Ireland’s intervention seeks to broaden the ICJ’s interpretation of genocide, highlighting concerns that a narrow understanding of the Convention fosters impunity and undermines civilian protections.

“Ireland’s view of the Convention is broader and prioritizes the protection of civilian life,” said Martin, emphasizing Ireland’s commitment to advancing its interpretation through the intervention.

South Africa in December brought a case before the ICJ, arguing that the war in Gaza breached the 1948 United Nations Genocide Convention, an accusation Israel has denied.

Several nations, including Bolivia and Chile, have joined South Africa’s case against Israel.

UN appeals for $4B in Gaza, West Bank aid in 2025

Thursday 12-December-2024

GENEVA, (PIC)

The UN has appealed for $4.07 billion to provide desperately needed aid in war-ravaged Gaza and the occupied West Bank next year, saying that the actual amount needed was far higher.

The aim will be to provide assistance to “the entire population of Gaza, estimated at 2.1 million people, and 900,000 people in the occupied West Bank,” the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said in its appeal.

It said that the actual needs amounted to “at least $6.6 billion”, but suggested that Israeli constraints placed on aid delivery meant it would be difficult to scale up operations to that level.

“To be able to implement the full scale of what is urgently needed, Israel must take immediate and effective measures to ensure the essential needs of civilians are met,” the appeal said.

“Humanitarian actors anticipate being limited in what they can achieve in 2025 due to severe restrictions… and ever greater challenges to their ability to operate, including intensified and coordinated anti-UN rhetoric strategically aimed at delegitimizing humanitarian efforts,” the appeal said.

The bitter cost of survival: Gaza's desperate search for edible food

By 'Husain Al-Sinwar

GAZA, December 12, 2024 (WAFA) –

For over 14 months, the people of Gaza have been subjected to an unrelenting Israeli siege and military assault, forcing them to endure extreme measures just to survive. The ongoing Israeli blockade has not only deprived them of essential resources but has also pushed them to consume food that is hazardous to their health, including contaminated flour that is unfit for consumption.

Citizens across the Gaza Strip have been forced to rely on expired flour, despite knowing the dangers it poses. Many have reported finding insects, rodents, and even waste in the flour, yet they have no choice but to use it to feed their families. "We know it’s spoiled, unfit for humans or even animals," said Suleiman Abed, a resident of Gaza, in an interview with WAFA. "But when there is nothing else, you have no choice. We are fighting hunger to survive."

This dire situation is not unique to Abed. The widespread use of rotten flour has led to numerous health issues, including abdominal pain, diarrhea, and bloating. “We know it harms us, but with no fresh flour available in the markets, we have to do it to stay alive,” he adds, calling on international organizations like UNRWA to pressure Israel to allow more flour shipments into Gaza.

A bitter taste of desperation

Suffering from similar health issues is As'ad Abu 'Ubaid, who spoke of the harsh reality of eating dry, moldy bread, the result of deteriorating flour supplies. "The bread we eat smells terrible, and its taste makes your skin crawl. It’s full of bacteria and fungi, which have led to problems like bloating and digestive issues," said Abu 'Ubaid to WAFA. “Sometimes, the pain and discomfort are unbearable."

For many residents of Gaza, finding a bag of fresh flour is rare and expensive. When available, the price is prohibitive, reaching up to 35 shekels per kilogram. But the problem goes beyond price; access is a major barrier. Flour is difficult to obtain, especially in the aftermath of Israeli bombardments that have targeted those attempting to buy flour in the southern areas of the Strip. The few who manage to acquire it face grave dangers just to get it.

Another resident, Muhammad Dali, explained how he has resorted to using vanilla sugar and vinegar to mask the foul taste of rotten flour. “Even after I used these tricks to make it more bearable, the awful taste lingers,” he said. “But we can’t afford to be picky. It’s a matter of survival.”

The health dangers of contaminated flour

The impact of consuming contaminated flour is not just an inconvenience but a serious health risk. Dr. 'Hazim Barghouth, a nutrition expert, explained to WAFA that the consumption of moldy flour can lead to food poisoning, with symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. “Moldy flour contains harmful microbes, including aflatoxins—toxins produced by certain fungi—that can lead to long-term health issues such as liver damage, cancer, and immune system suppression,” he said.

Dr. Barghouth also warned that the nutritional value of flour deteriorates significantly once it becomes moldy, leading to a depletion of vital vitamins and minerals in the bread and other foods made from it. “This long-term deprivation can result in nutritional deficiencies, weakening the body’s ability to fight off other diseases.”

The role of international law and accountability

The tragedy of Gaza’s food crisis is compounded by the fact that this situation is not merely the result of a natural disaster, but rather a deliberate tactic in the ongoing Israeli siege. Under international humanitarian law, deliberately depriving civilians of food is prohibited.

The United Nations Security Council, in its 2018 resolution, condemned the use of starvation as a weapon of war, calling it a war crime. Similarly, Article 8 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) recognizes intentionally starving civilians as a war crime, punishable under international law.

Furthermore, the Fourth Geneva Convention, which governs the protection of civilians during times of armed conflict, expressly prohibits the use of food as a means of punishment. Articles 33, 55, and 59 of the Convention make clear that the occupying power must ensure the provision of essential goods like food and medicine, rather than using their deprivation as a form of collective punishment.

A cry for justice

As residents of Gaza continue to suffer the devastating effects of a man-made famine, their calls for international intervention grow louder. They urge the world to recognize the deliberate starvation as a form of punishment and an assault on their very humanity.

“The world cannot stand by and watch as we are forced to eat rotten flour just to survive. This is not a choice—it is a matter of life and death,” said Muhammad Dali, his voice heavy with frustration, in an interview with WAFA. "We need food, we need help, and we need the international community to hold Israel accountable for these war crimes."

In Gaza, the struggle to survive goes far beyond physical hunger. It is a battle against the very denial of life itself, where every bite of food is a reminder of the war that continues to rage, not only in the streets but in the stomachs of those who are left to endure it.

Editorial Notes about terms & names of people and places:

1. Names of people and places have been standardized to match standard Arabic grammatical rules.

2. Underlined letters and letters preceded by an apostrophe are references to Arabic letter sounds, which does not exist in the English alphabet.

3. The English letter i is equivalent to the Arabic short vowel known as kasra, as in Ibraheem and Qasim as well as in the English words sit and bit. So, it is incorrect to use it as a long vowel for such Arabic names as Jameel and Jibreel.

4. The English letter e is equivalent to the Arabi short vowel known as fat'ha, as in A'hmed and Mu'hammed.

5. It is more accurate to refer to the
land-grabbing Israelis, who establish illegal settlements in the Palestinian territory of the West Bank, as illegal Israeli settlers, than referring to them as colonists.

The term colony is a reference to a large entity or a country, such as American states before independence. It was also a reference to Egypt, and India, when they were British colonies.

In addition, the term "colony" represents a positive nostalgic theme, in the minds of native speakers of English, particularly in America and Britain.

6. It is more accurate to use the verbs "abduct" and "kidnap" than the verbs "detain" and "arrest," in reference to taking Palestinian citizens by force to prisons and interrogation centers, by Israeli occupation regime soldiers. This is because the presence of the Israeli occupation regime forces is illegal in the Palestinian territories, and they have no jurisdiction over the Palestinian people.
