'Hamas: Targeting journalists in Gaza reflects Israel’s disregard for international law

Sunday 21-June-2026

GAZA, (PIC)

The 'Hamas Movement said that Israel’s continued targeting of Palestinian journalists and media workers demonstrates its disregard for international law and its ongoing efforts to silence the truth.

In a statement, the Movement condemned the killing of Al Jazeera Mubashir cameraman, A'hmed Wisha'h on Saturday, describing it as another crime in Israel’s long record of attacks against Palestinian media professionals and its attempts to suppress voices documenting the reality of the war in Gaza.

'Hamas said that the targeting of journalists and media workers, despite the protections afforded to them under international humanitarian law and international conventions, shows Israel’s contempt for legal norms and its determination to continue its actions without accountability.

The Movement added that Palestinian journalists have become direct targets as part of a systematic policy aimed at concealing the truth and preventing the documentation of crimes and violations against civilians in the Gaza Strip.

According to Hamas, these attacks come after Palestinian, Arab, and international media outlets succeeded in drawing global attention to the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza.'

The Movement called on the United Nations, international human rights organizations, and global media institutions to take urgent action to protect journalists and civilians, halt attacks against them, and pursue accountability through international legal mechanisms.

A'hmed Wisha'h, a cameraman for Al Jazeera Mubashir, was killed on Saturday evening when an Israeli strike hit a home in El-Buraij refugee camp in central Gaza.

A'hmed Wisha'h was the brother of Mu'hammed Wisha'h, an Al Jazeera Mubashir correspondent who was also killed by an Israeli strike on his vehicle, west of Gaza City on April 8.

Journalists in Gaza have faced sustained risks since the start of the Israeli genocidal war. According to Palestinian sources, the killing of Ahmed Washah brings the number of journalists killed in Gaza since October 2023 to 263.

Palestinian political prisoner, Sabir El-Umaitil, dies in Israeli occupation regime prison

Sunday 21-June-2026

NEGEV, (PIC)

Palestinian political prisoner Sabir El-Umaitil, from the Negev, was pronounced dead in an Israeli jail on Sunday, amid reports that he had been subjected to abuse and torture during his detention.

His death follows mounting warnings over the grim conditions inside the Israeli occupation regime jails, where Palestinian detainees face different forms of abuse, including severe medical neglect and physical torture.

El-Umaitil joins more than 100 prisoners who have died in Israeli prisons and detention camps since the start of the genocidal war on Gaza, with the identities of only 90 confirmed so far.

Meanwhile, the 'Hamas Movement issued a statement today mourning prisoner El-Umaitil.

'Hamas stressed that El-Umaitil died as a result of his exposure to brutal detention conditions and savage assaults while in prison.

The Movement called on the international community and human rights organizations to take serious action and pressure for an end to Israel’s violations against Palestinian prisoners.

'Hamas mourns two Palestinians killed by Israeli gunfire in El-Khaleel (Hebron)

Monday 22-June-2026

WEST BANK, (PIC)

The 'Hamas Movement has mourned martyrs 'Eisa 'Awadh, 19, and Ridha 'Awadh, 15, who were shot dead earlier today by Israeli forces in El-Khaleel (Hebron) province, south of the occupied West Bank.

“The occupation forces’ persistence in targeting the Palestinian people, particularly young men and children, is part of a systematic policy of killing pursued by the Israeli government to extinguish the spark of resistance,” Hamas said in a statement on Monday.

“This systematic policy of killing and intimidation will fail to achieve its goals; rather, it will only strengthen the Palestinians’ adherence to their rights and their resolve to remain steadfast in the face of ongoing Israeli attacks,” Hamas said.

The Movement called on Palestinian masses in El-Khaleel (Hebron) and across the West Bank to close ranks, escalate all forms of resistance, and confront attacks by settlers and Israeli forces to defend their land and holy sites.

A Palestinian child and a young man were martyred at dawn on Monday and two others were injured by Israeli gunfire near the illegal Israeli settlement of Karmei Tzur, in northern El-Khaleel (Hebron).

El-Khaleel (Hebron), (PIC)

Two Palestinians were injured by Israeli gunfire on Sunday evening during an Israeli military raid on El-'Arroub refugee camp, north of El-Khaleel (Hebron), in the southern occupied West Bank.

Local sources reported that Israeli forces stormed the camp and deployed throughout several neighborhoods and alleyways. The Israeli troops also forced shop owners to close their businesses while carrying out raids and searches.

The incursion sparked clashes between Palestinian youths and Israeli forces, who opened live fire on residents, resulting in two injuries.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society confirmed that its crews treated two people wounded by live ammunition in El-'Arroub refugee camp, noting that one of the injuries was classified as critical.

The raid comes amid an escalation of Israeli military operations and settler attacks across the occupied West Bank, with tensions remaining high in a number of Palestinian cities and towns.

According to the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, Israeli forces and settlers carried out 1,659 attacks during May, targeting Palestinians and their property throughout the West Bank.

Monday 22-June-2026

WEST BANK, (PIC)

Different areas of the occupied West Bank witnessed a widespread wave of attacks by the illegal Israeli Jewish settlers targeting Palestinian citizens, cars, and property over the past 24 hours.

In the Ramallah and El-Beereh governorate, a horde of settlers set fire to a car scrap yard in the village of Shuqba, west of the city.

Other settlers imposed a siege on a Palestinian family in the town of El-Taybeh, east of Ramallah, after cutting off their water and electricity supplies.

The illegal Israeli Jewish settlers also stormed the “Sha’b El-Lawz” area, in the west of El-Mughayyir village, north of Ramallah.

According to local sources, at least 180 settlers entered the Mosque in different groups through its Maghariba Gate and toured its courtyards in the morning.

During their tours at the Islamic holy site, the settlers received lectures from rabbis about the alleged temple mount and a number of them provocatively performed Talmudic prayers.

Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation reime police imposed movement and entry restrictions on Muslim worshipers at the El-Aqsa Mosque entrances and gates and prevented many of them from entering the holy site.

The Israeli occupation apartheid regime issues stop-work orders for 13 residential structures in Bait Soureek

Sunday 21-June-2026

WEST BANK, (PIC)

The Israeli occupation apartheid regime on Sunday issued stop-work orders for 13 residential structures in the town of Bait Soureek, northwest of Occupied Jerusalem.

According to a statement by the Palestinian Authority’s Jerusalem Governorate, several residents received notices ordering them to halt construction on 13 housing units in the town.

The governorate said the orders are part of an ongoing policy targeting Palestinian construction in the El-Quds (occupied Jerusalem) area.

Israeli authorities continue to target Palestinian communities in Occupied Jerusalem through demolition and stop-work orders, while imposing strict restrictions on building permits for Palestinians, alongside continued settlement expansion and the confiscation of Palestinian land.

In its monthly human rights report, the Jerusalem Governorate documented 20 notices issued during May, including demolition orders, eviction notices, stop-work orders, and land confiscation measures across the city.

The report also recorded 84 demolition and land-leveling operations during the same period. These included 21 cases of forced self-demolition, in which Palestinian residents were compelled to demolish their own homes to avoid heavy fines, as well as 56 demolitions carried out by Israeli municipal authorities and military bulldozers.

Additionally, seven land-clearing operations targeted Palestinian-owned land and property, with demolitions and bulldozing reported across several neighborhoods and towns in the Occupied Jerusalem area.

"From Gaza to Sde Teiman": A book documenting the experience of Palestinian prisoner in Israeli prisons

Sunday 21-June-2026

GAZA, (PIC)

The book “Survivors from the Darkness” was recently published by the author and political analyst Wesam Afifa, by the Indian publishing house LeftWord Books, dealing with the experience of captivity through the testimony of the Palestinian journalist Osama inside the Israeli occupation prisons during the war on Gaza, in a work that combines live testimony, documentary narrative, and human literature.

The book falls within the literature of testimonies and prisons, and documents the details of 20 months that Osama spent in Israeli detention during the period extending from March 2024 until October 2025, moving between a number of detention centers and prisons, including “Sde Teiman” detention camp, which the book describes as one of the harshest detention sites during the war.

The work is based on a direct testimony of the prisoner, providing a detailed narrative of what the Palestinian detainees were subjected to of harsh detention conditions, including interrogations, isolation, humiliation, and physical and psychological violence, in an attempt to document an aspect of the human experience lived by the Palestinian prisoners during the war.

In his introduction to the book, the international thinker and historian Vijay Prashad said that this is “a book that should not have been written at all, but it was written because what happened should have been documented.”

He added that the work does not aim at entertainment or literary ambition as much as it seeks to record a human experience that took place in the context of the ongoing war on Gaza.

Afifa points out that the book does not deal with prison as a place of detention only, but as a space for testing human limits and the ability to remain steadfast, where personal testimony turns into a window for a broader understanding of the meanings of dignity, hope, and survival in the face of oppression.

The book is considered the first work published for Afifa in the English language by an international publishing house, after a long career in journalism, writing, and documentation related to the Palestinian cause and the war on Gaza.

The book was published with the translation of the Palestinian poet and translator Hosam El-Madhoun, while its introduction was written by Vijay Prashad, one of the most prominent contemporary thinkers and writers on issues of the Global South and liberation movements.

The book is scheduled to be available for international distribution via the website of the Indian publishing house LeftWord Books, with the possibility of ordering and shipping it to various countries of the world.

“Survivors from the Darkness” presents a human testimony that transcends the boundaries of place and time, to tell the story of a Palestinian journalist who found himself inside a harsh detention system during one of the bloodiest wars in the history of Gaza, in an attempt to preserve memory and document what happened for future generations.

Freed Palestinian political prisoner, 'Abdul Kareem El-Rimawi, breathes freedom: This is how the picture became complete and smiles returned

Saturday 20-June-2026

El-Khaleel (Hebron), (PIC)

After 25 years he spent in Israeli occupation prisons, the freed Palestinian political prisoner 'Abdul Kareem El-Rimawi breathed the air of freedom, to begin the journey of return that his family had waited for so long, and to complete a family picture that had been missing one of its pillars for a quarter of a century.

At the El-Dthahariya checkpoint south of El-Khaleel (Hebron), El-Rimawi’s wife Lydia was anticipating his release with bated breath, while his son Majd, who was born via smuggled sperm 14 years ago, was preparing to meet his father for the first time outside prison walls.

As for his daughter Rand, who was an infant upon his arrest, she has become a 26-year-old young woman holding a master’s degree in media.

The picture that was completed after a quarter of a century

In a touching moment, El-Rimawi gathered with his wife, his son, and his daughter to take the first complete family picture since his arrest. There was no longer between them the glass of visitation rooms or the restrictions of time, but rather a complete picture from which one of its members had been absent for 25 years.

This moment formed the biggest dream for El-Rimawi throughout the years of his captivity, as he was looking forward to the day he would embrace his family in freedom. His wife and children also waited for this moment year after year until it was finally realized.

Rejecting freedom conditioned on deportation

Despite his name being included in previous exchange deals about a year and a half ago, his release was conditioned on his deportation to Egypt, which he rejected, preferring to remain in captivity rather than leave his homeland.

After his release, he headed to the shrine of the late President Yasser Arafat to read al-Fatiha for his soul, then continued his way to his town of Beit Rima, northwest of Ramallah. There, he visited the graves of his parents, who passed away before witnessing his freedom, and stood before them, saying, “Here I am back, mother. Here I am back, father.”

Family reception and Israeli threats

The family received Rimawi at their home amid a large attendance of relatives and friends who flocked to congratulate him. However, the reception was devoid of public manifestations of celebration due to Israeli threats to return him to prison if any celebrations were held.

The Israeli occupation forces had arrested Abdul Karim al-Rimawi on June 18, 2001, while he was returning from his university after finishing his third academic year.

During the years of captivity, he continued his university education at Al-Quds Open University and obtained a bachelor’s degree in community service.

While brutal force has been used to create Zionist Israel and sustain it thus far, Zionist claims to Palestine are false. Actually, from the five thousand years of known written human history, there has been a continuous Palestinian-Canaanite presence in the Holy Land. Despite the Zionist false claims, the ancient Israelites ruled part of the land for only 85 years (during the reign of Prophets David and Solomon , peace be upon them, and Solomon's son).

After that, the Egyptians conquered Palestine-Canaan in 925 BC, followed by Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, and Romans, before the Arab Muslim rule, starting from 636 AD.

By the Time Jesus, peace be upon him, started his mission, the three population groups of Canaanites, Palestinians, and Israelites were melted together in religion and language. Most of them became Christians when Constantine converted in 313 AD. Then, most of them became Muslims in the 7th and 8th centuries AD.

So, Palestinian Muslims, Christians, and Jews are the ones who have the right to claim descent from ancient Israelites, Palestinians, and Canaanites, not Zionists from other continents.

No matter what the Zionists and their supporters do, they cannot change the will of God, Who promised the Holy Land to Abraham and his descendants, basically the Palestinian Muslims and Christians.

No matter how much persecution and aggression the Zionists and their supporters inflict upon the Palestinian people, they will never be able to force them out of the Holy Land, which Allah, praise to Him, promised for them, and kept His promise ever since.

This is a necessary brief background to understand the US-Backed Zionist Israeli continuous wars against the Arab nation generally, and the Palestinian people in particular, which included the wars of 1948, 1956, 1967, 1978, 1982, the brutal crushing of the two Uprisings (1987-1993 and 2000-2004), 2009, 2012, 2014, 2021, and the current genocidal war on Gaza (Since October 7, 2023), which has culminated a blockade of Gaza since 2007. In addition, the Israeli occupation and apartheid regime launched so many covert operations, raids, and air strikes on many Arab states since 1948.

The following news stories are just examples, not a systematic record, of the Israeli occupation government abuse, mistreatment, and violations of Palestinian human rights, on daily basis.

Editorial Notes about terms & names of people and places:

1. Names of people and places have been standardized to match standard Arabic grammatical rules.

2. Underlined letters and letters preceded by an apostrophe are references to Arabic letter sounds, which does not exist in the English alphabet.

3. The English letter i is equivalent to the Arabic short vowel known as kasra, as in Ibraheem and Qasim as well as in the English words sit and bit. So, it is incorrect to use it as a long vowel for such Arabic names as Jameel and Jibreel.

4. The English letter e is equivalent to the Arabi short vowel known as fat'ha, as in A'hmed and Mu'hammed.

5. It is more accurate to refer to the
land-grabbing Israelis, who establish illegal settlements in the Palestinian territory of the West Bank, as illegal Israeli settlers, than referring to them as colonists.

The term colony is a reference to a large entity or a country, such as American states before independence. It was also a reference to Egypt, and India, when they were British colonies.

In addition, the term "colony" represents a positive nostalgic theme, in the minds of native speakers of English, particularly in America and Britain.

6. It is more accurate to use the verbs "abduct" and "kidnap" than the verbs "detain" and "arrest," in reference to taking Palestinian citizens by force to prisons and interrogation centers, by Israeli occupation regime soldiers. This is because the presence of the Israeli occupation regime forces is illegal in the Palestinian territories, and they have no jurisdiction over the Palestinian people.
